Collection routes
Charleston is a city of houses turned sideways. The single house stands end-on to its lot with a piazza down the flank, so most of what reaches a rug downtown has already crossed a semi-exterior floor to get there. The rest comes from what the buildings themselves are doing: old masonry giving up its own salts into the edge of a rug, a historic district in permanent renovation shedding plaster, a rented house changing hands fifty times a year. A rug in a family room in Mount Pleasant, a rug in a gallery on a cobbled street and a rug in a managed house on Kiawah are all failing, and they are failing for three unrelated reasons. These are the areas we collect from most, and what tends to be waiting when we get there.
